Jim Moran Is A Winner Of Times Community Newspapers' Thorn Award
His Negative Statements About Jews, Including Complaints About Jewish Influence Posted by Jonathan S. Mark on Saturday, February 21, 2004

Local newspaper chain also awarded Kate Hanley a thorn "for deciding not to run against incumbent eighth district congressman, James P. Moran."

The Times Community Newspapers awarded James P. Moran a Thorn in its 2003 year-end issue for his remarks about Jews. The award states:
  • "THORN: To U.S. Rep. James Moran (D-8th) for somehow turning a productive community meeting in Reston on its ear with a misguided comment on the role Jewish-Americans have played in Middle Eastern affairs.
  • ROSE AND THORN: A rose to outgoing Fairfax County Board Chairman Kate Hanley for her many years of dedicated service, first as a citizen activist and then as board chairman where she literally worked 16-hour days. But she gets a thorn for deciding not to run against incumbent eighth district congressman, James P. Moran."


We understand why Kate felt that she had to leave the race in order to spend more time with her husband during a difficult situation. We would simply give her a Rose.
