James Moran Gets 94 percent of his PAC money from Business PACs, Only Three Percent From Labor PACs
General Discussion Posted by Jonathan Mark on Wednesday, February 11, 2004

Al Wynn Gets 42 percent of his PAC support from Labor, Chris Van Hollen gets 50 percent from Labor and Eleanor Holmes Norton Gets 80 percent from Labor. And James Moran gets three percent of his PAC support from Labor. Think about it.

As of his last FEC filing Andy Rosenberg had raised $140K, which is amazingly good for a challenger to an incumbent. You can see Andy's and James Moran's fundraising totals at www.opensecrets.org.

Yes, it is easy and legal to evade FEC requirements and not show up in FEC records as supporting a candidate. All one has to do is give to a PAC which in turn gives to a candidate. James Moran gets lots of PAC money, Andy Rosenberg gets very little. So far in the 2003-2004 election cycle James Moran has received $180,000 in PAC money in addition to $470,000 in individual contributions. 94 percent of Moran's PAC money comes from Business PACs, three percent from Labor PACs.

By comparison, Democratic Congressman Al Wynn in Prince George's County gets 41 percent of his PAC money from Labor PACs. Congressman Chris Van Hollen in Montgomery County gets 50 percent of his PAC money from Labor. And D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton gets 80 percent of her PAC money from Labor.

Could anything make it more clear that James Moran is a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing and a Republican sellout on economic issues? Labor PACs make up 42, 50 and 80 percent of the PAC totals for the other Democratic congresspersons in the DC area, and only three (!) percent of the PAC contributions for James Moran.

If you are a labor union member or know someone who is, then you might want to ask yourself what James Moran is doing on behalf of Business PACs that results in such a huge outpouring of Business PAC support for Moran. And what is James Moran not doing for labor that causes that results in such a miniscule level of Labor PAC support for him?

And what of challenger Andy Rosenberg's receipt of PAC money, you ask? So far in the 2003-2004 election cycle, FEC filings tracked at opensecrets.org do not record Andy Rosenberg as having received any PAC money at all.
