Moran Flip-Flops On Howard Dean: Now He Supports Dean, Now He Does Not
His Enablers Posted by Jonathan Mark on Sunday, February 08, 2004

Fair-Weather Supporter James Moran Says In The 2/5/04 Mount Vernon Voice "That Remains To Be Seen" When Asked Whether He Is Still A Dean Supporter

When James Moran spoke at a "Town Meeting" in Reston on Jan. 14 he told the crowd that he was endorsing Howard Dean for President. Moran received an ovation.

The Howard Dean website itself included Moran in a list of congressional dean supporters.

Now we have additional evidence that those who applaud James Moran's statements are often being taken for a ride.

Moran is nowadays evasive on whether he is a Howard Dean supporter or not. The 2/5/04 edition of the Mount Vernon Voice stated the following:

"U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th), who had been supporting former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, responded 'that remains to be seen' when asked by the Voice Saturday if he was still a Dean supporter."

However, in the same week in which he was being evasive in his support for Dean, Moran was also appearing at a Dean campaign event. The 2/7/04 Washington Post reported that:

"About 40 supporters came to an Arlington restaurant Wednesday night for Dean's monthly Meetup. The gathering included Reps. James P. Moran Jr. and Robert C. 'Bobby' Scott, two Virginia Democrats who endorsed him early on."
