Political Cronies Who Stood By Moran During His Previous Scandals Continue To Do So James Moran is a former mayor and vice-mayor of Alexandria. He resigned from his position as vice-mayor in 1984 as part of a plea bargain after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor conflict-of-interest charge. Ethical standards in parts of the Alexandria Democratic party in the mid-1980s were such that James Moran's criminal conviction did not preclude him from being elected mayor of Alexandria the next year, defeating incumbent mayor Charles Beatley. Now James Moran has started a campaign website at www.jimmoran.org. One of the articles available online is entitled "Moran Holds Campaign's First Organizational Meeting in Alexandria." The description of this meeting confirms that Moran's supporters live primarily in Alexandria, even though more than half of Eighth District voters live in Fairfax County, and many of the remainder live in Arlington. The following past and present Alexandria politicians were not ashamed to stand with Moran once again as he faces various charges in the Washington Post and the Nation magazine of conflict of interest, violence and having made hostile statements about thousands of his constituents:
