Moran Responded to Question About His Jewish Comments About 150 people were present at the Lake Anne Community Center in Reston last night to attend one of James Moran's "Town Meetings." Moran will be hard to beat. He is charming and personable. I may know he is a phony, but even I found him likable. Moran called on me, and I politely asked him about comments that he made last month on the Mark Plotkin show on WTOP radio. I urged Moran not to identify supporters of the Iraq war as Jews, and pointed out that on the Plotkin show Moran stated that a majority of the leadership of the organized Jewish community supported the war. Moran responded by saying that his comments had pertained to what he alleged was an advertisement that the Council of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations had taken out. Moran said that this ad had run in the N.Y. Times on a full-page and that it supported the war with Iraq. Moran said that there is a broader issue involved, and that he had discussed it on the show after "Plotkin kept pushing me." The broader issue is that he, Moran, is a supporter of the Israeli Labor Party and believes that Israel is poorly served by the policies of Ariel Sharon. Moran stated that he regrets his earlier remarks about Jews. He was probably referring to the remarks last March. There was scattered applause for Moran when he finished. On the way out I asked a woman who was distributing Clark for President literature if she liked Moran. She replied that she was disappointed in the way Moran had handled impeachment. (Moran in fact had called on President Clinton to resign but then backtracked and denied he had ever said such things.) I mentioned that I also had been appalled at Moran's behavior back then, but that people had forgiven Moran. Just like many voters have forgiven Moran for everything else he has done as well. Cutting through the fog of Moran's considerable personal charm is going to be quite a job. < | >

"[Cong. Parris is] a deceitful, fatuous jerk. . . .
I want to break his nose."
