I remember when Rabbi Moline and I were supporters of Moran. A number of Virginia newspapers mentioned Moran's criticisms of Jews as being one of the top stories of 2003. Here is an excerpt of what The Connection Newspapers had to say in their 1/9/04 year-end review: "Moran's Remarks Cause Outrage U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8) touched off a fury among Jewish groups when he said in March that the Jewish lobby was pushing the country towards war with Iraq. At a town hall meeting in Reston March 3, several weeks before the war started, Moran said, 'If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this.' 'The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going and I think they should.'
Moran apologized for the remarks after some Jewish groups objected and called on him to resign.
'This one just crossed the line,' said Rabbi Jack Moline of the Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria. < | >

"[Cong. Parris is] a deceitful, fatuous jerk. . . .
I want to break his nose."
—James Moran in the Aug. 29, 1990 Washington Post, referring to his opponent. | |
