This foolish article can warn us about what is going on in the minds of Moran's enablers. They want to declare victory and go home. Don't let them. Well, here it is. From the 1/4/04 online edition of the Arlington Sun Weekly: "Political Column Rates Arlington Elected Officials The end of the year brings the chance for the Sun Gazette to hand out accolades and brickbats to elected officials. So, here goes – the grades for 2003 from the "Arlington Politics" column of the Arlington Sun Gazette. ... U.S. Rep. Jim Moran, D-8th, earns an A-minus. If you wish to give the Sun Gazette a piece of your mind, their Letters to the Editor email address is letters@sun-gazette.com Your columnist claims that "Politically, Moran scared off both County Board member Jay Fisette and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kate Hanley, who had considered challenging him in 2004." Here is what Kate Hanley herself stated in a letter she sent out returning the unused portions of political contributions: "I know the total commitment that winning efforts require. For personal and family reasons I am unable to make that commitment at this time." If your columnist wishes to ignore Kate Hanley's stated reasons for leaving the race then fine. Perhaps your columnist is not familiar with the family situation that required Kate Hanley to leave the race.
