Could Jim Moran's lack of effectiveness be related to his having alienated friend and foe? The Dec. 31 Washington Times mentions that "House Republicans have included language in the omnibus appropriations bill to prevent federal law enforcement from maintaining a 90-day database on gun buyers, angering gun control advocates but moving closer to the original intent of the law...In the past two years Rep. James P. Moran, Virginia Democrat, has twice offered amendments to maintain the 90-day mandate, but those amendments have been defeated."
Virtually every James Moran initiative gets defeated. Look at the bumbling and ineffective way he attempted to oppose the Iraq war. The U.S. Park Police chief he champions is getting fired. His resolution honoring the late human shield Rachel Corrie never got out of committee. Let's see if Howard Dean's acceptance of Moran's endorsement (you can read about it on the Dean website) ends up sinking Dean's ship. Everything else Moran is associated with fails. And despite the huge advantage that incumbents enjoy in winning reelection, someday Moran's own political career will fail as well. Thousands of his former supporters, including me, guarantee it. < | >

"[Cong. Parris is] a deceitful, fatuous jerk. . . .
I want to break his nose."
—James Moran in the Aug. 29, 1990 Washington Post, referring to his opponent. | |
