Photo: Moran receives plaque from Alamoudi (far left) at Al-Hewar Center in Falls Church The Washington Post, in its 12/1/03 article 12/1/03 article "Jailed Muslim Had Made a Name in Washington" by Mary Beth Sheridan and Douglas Farah, contains a serious error. The article notes that in late October 2000 Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush returned contributions from jailed terrorist supporter Abdurahman Alamoudi, and incorrectly claims that "soon other elected officials, including Reps. John E. Sununu (R-N.H.) and James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), began returning his contributions." In fact, two months after Hillary Clinton returned her Alamoudi contribution and Bush returned his, Moran then accepted a second contribution from Alamoudi in January 2001. Thus Moran did not return his two Alamoudi contributions for 14 months after Clinton and Bush had returned theirs. Most importantly, Moran accepted a second Alamoudi contribution in the meantime. The complete chronology concerning Moran was given in the 2/02/02 Washington Post article "Moran to Break With Muslim Activist." The correct chronology, according to these Post articles, would be: May 1998: Moran receives $1000 contribution from Alamoudi Late October/Early November 2000: Clinton and Bush return their Alamoudi contributions after Alamoudi states "We are all supporters of Hamas" at rally in front of White House. 1/4/2001: Moran receives a second $1000 contribution from Alamoudi. 2/1/2002: Moran finally agrees to return the Alamoudi money after Alamoudi appears on CBS's 48 Hours and repeats his statement of support for Hamas. Thus Moran kept the Alamoudi money, and raised more Alamoudi money, for about 14 months after Clinton and Bush returned theirs.
