Until recently, I was not aware that Moran has continued to blame the Jewish community for the war in Iraq. After having pretended last spring to be apologetic for his remarks about Jews, James Moran spoke before the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce on May 20, 2003, according to Eric Fingerhut's article in the 9/11/03's Washington Jewish Week. When asked about opposition to Moran within the Democratic party, a question that did not involve Jews or Israel, Moran launched into a diatribe. "Moran once again explained that he did not intend to blame the war in Iraq on the Jewish community, as he did in March, but then gave reasons why 'there was a certain amount of truth' to those comments. Moran went on. Moran claimed incorrectly that "the presidents of major Jewish organizations in the United States took out a full-page ad in The New York Times expressing their support for President Bush and his policy in Iraq" and as further evidence for his theory added that "neoconservatives" Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle are advisers to Bush as well as "closely aligned to the Likud Party."
Unfortunately the Washington Post did not pick up the story, perhaps because news of the speech only surfaced now. < | >

"[Cong. Parris is] a deceitful, fatuous jerk. . . .
I want to break his nose."
—James Moran in the Aug. 29, 1990 Washington Post, referring to his opponent. | |
