| Many of us are not prepared to write off the Democratic Party just yet. If you hope to change the Democratic Party from within and you live in Alexandria, then here is what you can do.
A. writes: "hi all: info re: alexandria democratic caucus: ADC will hold an assembled caucus Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at 7 p.m. in auditorium at Minnie Howard School for purpose of electing members to the ADCommittee. caucus will elect 6 membrs from each of the city's 24 precints. any precinct with more than 2500 registered voters will be entitled to one more additional member for every 500 voters above 2500. 10 at-large members shall be elected from each of Alexandria's 3 school board districts.
any person seeking election as member must file with Susan Kellom no later than 5 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2003. date/time enforced. if interested, call ADC office, 703-549-3367 or can be downloaded from ADC website,www.alexdems.org."
Mark writes that: "Every other year, democrats caucus to decide who is on these steering
committees. We need to not
only get any sympathetic Democrats to come out to those caucuses to
vote, but also we need to have
a slate of sympathetic Democrats for whom they can vote. I believe
that any voter can turn out
for these caucuses, although it *might* only be local active committee
members. I am by NO MEANS an expert on this process--in fact, I barely
understand it. But it is these
committees that help decide whether there is a caucus or a primary.
For all I know, they might
also be able to control WHEN a primary is held--if having the primary
in September rather than
June would allow us to get a more viable candidate, then we'd want to
push for that.
Additionally, if Moran were to be re-elected, these committees might be
able to embarrass him/make
life difficult for him between 2004 and 2006. We want anti-Moran
people in control of these
committees, if at all possible."
